We use SAP Cloud ERP for testing the business processes for a Automotive OEM in Germany. I am responsible for executing different test cases and test scenarios and to submit the business users with successful testing for the S4 HANA migration or upgrade projects. SAP Cloud ERP is the main ERP tool which manages end to end business processes for the Automotive OEM.

Pros

  • Manage the production, inventory and supply chain
  • Integration to other 3rd party applications
  • End to end execution of business processes
  • User friend GUI with Fiori

Cons

  • Limit the degree of customization and stick to standard, currently the client has heavy customization which is difficult to maintain
  • Better reporting dashboards with standard SAP reports

SAP Cloud ERP being the global leader in ERP is perfectly suited for companies that need a integrated software to manage end to end business processes. SAP offers industry specific and country specific solutions which is perfectly suited for global MNC's looking to synchronize system landscape. It would be less appropriate for small scale organizations which have simple business model.

Does well Manufacturing companies - E2E integration. Product Costing integration with manufacturing. Order to Cash - E2E integration, Joule, and openness to integrating third-party products. Less appropriate AI capabilities - competition is moving faster. E2E professional services business as business is evolving faster, and new ideas are coming in at a fast pace.

Finance used for reporting. It provides structured and easily queried reporting for the user for various analysis. My team and I specifically use it to obtain population for audit purposes. Reports can be used to analyze and select targeted samples to verify existence and accuracy. In addition, report parameters are easily captured to demonstrate completeness.

Migrating from SAP ECC on the data centers to S4 Hana on AWS has been transformational. It has allowed my organization to keep the core clean by leveraging BTP for all customizations, as well as make it a unified ERP solution for multiple lines of business, resulting in consistency.

Likelihood to Recommend

While SAP licensing can be expensive and needs to be managed carefully, it does offer new solutions and partnerships that can be very valuable to customers. Redwood, Boomi, Tricentis are some of the examples of partners/solutions that SAP is known to work well with. Given that S4 HANA is relatively new, there is a tendency to scale back on some of the strategic operations goals of its customers, like archiving and data retention.
