ManageEngine OpManager - Great option for Network device monitoring

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ManageEngine OpManager is being used in our organization for monitoring our complete infra devices. We use it for monitoring the servers, virtual machines, load balancers, firewalls, routers, switches, and bandwidth usage. Monitoring these devices helps us in understanding if there are any issues associated with any of them. Thus helping us to arrive at the root cause. We can set alerts so that when the threshold gets breached the notifications are sent. We are using it for monitoring server performance during the load test and stress test and thus we get stats that can help us decide the resources required for a particular application to be hosted.

Pros

  • Centralized dashboard providing a unified view of all devices.
  • Alerts can be set and email notifications can be sent through the platform whenever there are issues.
  • Real time monitoring helps in early fixing and historical data can be collected and based on the stats reported by the tool decisions can be derived at.

Cons

  • Alerts has to be configured correctly otherwise unnecessary bombarding of alerts can cause inconvenience.
  • The server on which ManageEngine OpManager is to be deployed should have higher resources as monitoring a large number of devices may slow down the performance of the system.
  • Configuring the advanced features may require a learning curve.

Likelihood to Recommend

Scenarios where CPU monitoring, memory monitoring, storage monitoring, network monitoring is required, ManageEngine OpManager is the best suited. You can get a complete understanding of the LAN controllers, packet movement and bandwidth consumption. So when ever there is a bandwidth choke or network packet loss, ManageEngine OpManager can let you know. It's UI is easy to use. ManageEngine OpManager is stable, secure and reliable. Also the support from ManageEngine is great.

Likelihood to Recommend

So for companies with busines critical systems OpManager is a well known good product.

I think it does not make sense to implent OPManager in companies who all the data is in the cloud, OpManager makes a great on Premise monitoring solution possible, but I don't think cloud monitoring is a thing where OpManager is needed.

Great Network Tool

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use OpManager daily for network, server and firewall monitoring. It has great alerts like rouge detection and failures throughout the network. Firewall rules can be managed on it as well as any alert you have setup for threshold peaks and just overall switch and router health. It has so many different uses. The problem it has solved for us is network transparency. We can see a lot more of the things going on with our systems and network with this product

Pros

  • Rogue detection for people who just plug in my network
  • threshold monitoring when spikes of data usage are moving across the Newtwork
  • alerts when thing are removed or added to the network and alerts on port failure

Cons

  • I find it difficult sometimes to setup certain monitor
  • other uses I am not taking advantage of I am sure there are many
  • training on setting up proper monitors

Likelihood to Recommend

As a bank this has suited us well as we do not need 3rd party vendors trying to manage our network. It might not be suitable if it is placed in an environment where you have the one switch and possibly a firewall or very limited production
