  • Content filter: we can do whatever we want
  • Management with SMA
  • Possibility of producing interesting statistics from a functional but also security point of view

Cons

  • We had some problems with the antispam
  • The API part: Too few things that we can achieve whether on the esa or on the SMA
  • Let the customer decide if he wants to upgrade the antivirus & antispam engine

In our organization, Since we are running ESA email solution we have being benefit from a robust and easy to maintain and deploy system , which in some cases still have some gray areas for the identification of false positive. It could be that is a misconfiguration that be improve using tools like now AI or official improvements on the documentation .

In general, Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense is a pretty good option for email security especially with integrations with splunk.

We use Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense for all our staff and contractors. It works great to protect all email, attachments, and external domain access. We filter both inbound and outbound emails. This provides the maximum email filtration and blacklist protection for our staff.

Cons

  • The web interface is definitely dated
  • The software updates to the user interface and the documentation online are not congruent. Some docs are old and information is lacking to make changes
  • The email filtering and email search features are really dated. And other tools are more user friendly

Works great for an on-prem solution, no outages unless you need to solve some internal issue with the system (which is rare), easy to license, and once its running just works! You can virtualize and physical hardware this in a cluster so have high availability. You can use it for cloud and on prem email systems.
