Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I manage a team of about 20 via the BambooHR® system. I review and approve time cards biweekly including approving time off requests. I help team members use the Goals area for setting personal improvement goals as well as team goals. I also am in charge of hiring for our branch office, so I am familiar with the Hiring/Jobs section of the software.

Pros

  • Digital Time Card Tracker
  • Automated Emails for Hiring
  • Automatic PTO Balance tracker based on submissions.

Cons

  • Sometimes employees who have overtime and PTO in the same pay period...I find it confusing to make sure they have everything submitted correctly. Wish there was an easier way to do this.
  • I've noticed some bugs with the Hiring Emails not coming to my actual inbox. It seems hit and miss...and the status of "opened" or "delivered" etc...isn't syncing with the ACTUAL last email that I've sent to a potential hire or they've sent to me.

We didn't have HR software a couple of years ago...but after a merger I was introduced to this program. Although I'm not a high up admin...I am a manager and it definitely saves me time...not needing to keep track of things in an excel file and email to an outside payroll company every 2 weeks is very nice. I believe it also saves me time with Hiring...not having to manually go and post a job add on every site I want it to be on...the automated features are very much appreciated.

Really good for employees to use themselves. Recruiters have an easy time looking through applications and automating workflows which is great. TIme off easy to request and approve.

We use BambooHR for paychecks, for benefits tracking, for PTO and sick time management, for performance reviews, and at various times during the feedback cycle. We also use it for organizational management and for training purposes to document what employees have completed training, and for storing all of their training documents.

Pros

  • Consolidates all of the necessary HR information into one centralized location
  • Helps me track all of the necessary information from my direct reports
  • Helps me easily track my PTO and sick time and progress on that throughout the year

Cons

  • The UI is super basic and could use some more color and interaction
  • There are lots of portions of it that are really busy and visually overwhelming

Likelihood to Recommend

It is a one stop shop for all of the needs for anything related to HR or people management. It can handle your payroll, your performance reviews, PTO and sick time tracking, organizational documentation, 1:1 notes and agendas and everything you would need for the HR portion of running your organization.

I am a front line contributor who uses BambooHR as an employee. I utilize BambooHR to stay in touch with company initiatives, view new employees, book my time off, and communicate with our HR team.

Pros

  • Easy to navigate platform

Cons

  • Get a BambooHR new user orientation as there are features I may not be utilizing.

I use it for training, performance reviews. I also like that it helps me keep all of my info up to date. I can find all the info and certificates that I have completed. BambooHR® also let's me know when I having training to complete and it is easy to access.

Cons

  • Logging in can be a nightmare sometimes
  • Authentication does not always work properly with BambooHR®
  • Some certificates take a long time to register on BambooHR®.

It took over 4 months for me to even get into BambooHR® when it came out. Extremely frustrating. BambooHR® has all My info and it is very easy to update my info. I also like that it reminds me of things that need to be completed.

It is used to support our personnel files, payroll, health insurance and 401K. We recently moved the company 401K to Fidelity and BambooHR® assisted us with setting up a 180 file feed to support payroll and employee contributions. We also recently set up HSA accounts through the portal as this is a new offering to employees and is also set up with the payroll deductions.

Pros

  • It is user friendly
  • It has great reports for payroll
  • It is easy for employees to see all their information in one place

Cons

  • BambooHR® does not offer Workers Comp
  • The response time for when a case is submitted is long
  • No dedicated support specialist

Likelihood to Recommend

It is a good platform for companies that would like to house all their employee information in one place. Although, for a large company ie 50+ employees, I think this might be difficult without a PEO which I have yet to see with BambooHR®.

It does allow you to set up your health insurance, 401K and PTO in a user-friendly system that shares well with payroll.

BambooHR helps with time off management, HR management, performance reviews, and 1:1's. The main problem it solves for us is having documentation all in one place for these items.

We use BambooHR as our main HRIS tool company wide. We have multiple subsidiaries and are in different countries worldwide. It helps us stay organized and understand the company structure through the org chart. It integrates well with many systems that help us automate tasks that deal with employees and their specific departments.

Great for SMB companies or companies that are growing rapidly. It has been great for us and we love using it. We utilize BambooHR as our enterprise-wide Human Resource Information System (HRIS) to support our multi-subsidiary operations across multiple international locations. The platform enables us to maintain organizational clarity through comprehensive org chart functionality, providing visibility into our global company structure. BambooHR's robust integration capabilities allow us to seamlessly connect with various business systems, automating employee-related workflows and department-specific processes. BambooHR® is an attractive tool for small and mid-size companies

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use BambooHR® for HR management and performance reviews. It is our primary employee repository tracking employee data, PTO tracking, compensation and payment information, performance assessments including employee feedback. BambooHR® is also a repository for important files that employees need to access regularly and of course, a great reference for other valuable data like org structure, birthdays, employee tenure and other key data for managers.

  • Good API integration

Cons

  • The biggest issue is on performance assessments. We are not able to customize the reminder dates so the automated reminder dates shown to people and on the email reminders is often misaligned with our actual internal deadlines. This causes a lot of confusion each review cycle.
  • Also on performance management, there is no way to push feedback to a supervisor for their direct report. The only way is if the manager requests the feedback from you. This limits the opportunity for people to give real time feedback throughout the half.
  • I wish we had a way to track notes from employee 1:1s in BambooHR® so when we do our performance reviews we can track. That may be a module we didn't purchase but it would facilitate more continuous and comprehensive evaluation of people at review time.

Likelihood to Recommend

It works very well for submitting PTO requests and identifying information around personnel matters. I love being able to quickly see how long someone has worked for the company or whether there are upcoming birthdays so I can send a personal note. There are analytics and charts around organizational segmentation that are less valuable for a smaller company like ours.

We use it for HR and payroll. Would love to for more features on the hiring and benefit side but overall good for a small company like ours.

  • Some of the implementations they have the customer handle by only providing a step-by-step article. One of my least favorite things about Bamboo.
  • More intuitive features for their hiring platform
