Akamai Connected Cloud Linode helps companies move from on-premises servers and IT infrastructure to an infrastructure running in the cloud and you won't have to hire as much as IT personnel to take care of your infrastructure, as Akamai Connected Cloud Linode will be taking care of the physical security & more. And also, it's easy to scale with just a click and a cloud infrastructure is always more affordable from all aspects, from the pricing to how many personnel you'll need to hire.

Akamai Connected Cloud Linode would be a good service to host a content delivery network (CDN) because of its edge network but I'd prefer not to use Akamai Connected Cloud Linode for tasks that need GPU power such as Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence (AI) because Akamai Connected Cloud Linode lacks deep GPU compute compared to AWS or Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode) for our Remote workers to access our internal infrastructure through a Wireguard node hosted on the cloud. Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode) are great and provide a very convenient and cost effective hosting solution to our issue. We are exploring other potential uses for the nodes and other projects in the cloud.

For the most part there isn't a service or hosting scenario that wouldnt be well suited for Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode). They have several cost effective solutions for a variety of needs. We are still exploring potential other cloud opportunities, but will more than likely go through Linode for all our future cloud/hosting needs in the future.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used the cloud platform to create virtual private servers, on which we installed Linux Debian OS and WordPress. We also created other VPSs to test and experiment with different software. We wanted complete control of the server at an affordable price. Akamai (Linode) provided fast computing and zero downtime. We especially wanted the cloud platform to be easy to understand and to allow us to install software quickly.

Give more RAM for the price.
Increase hard drive space.
Price could be less.

Linode does a super job if you want to run a custom application or install your own Linux software. We installed WordPress and a radio station. They both ran smoothly. It is easy to upgrade the CPU and RAM without destroying your server. Hard drive space could have more options. We could also monitor the speed and storage.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Akamai Cloud Computing to host web servers for web application purposes. We're currently supporting multiple different clients on a single linode and are scaling towards hundreds of thousands of monthly users. Clients range from WordPress installations to custom applications written in PHP and backed by MySQL databases, all hosted on linodes.

Pros

Simple and fast interface.
Fair and simple pricing.
Continuously developers their offering adding more capabilities.
Fantastic support.

Cons

Missing functionality compared to peers, for example DigitalOcean.
Historically used to lower prices regularly to stay competitive, not so much anymore.
Not very differentiated from similar cloud providers.

Likelihood to Recommend

Great for cheaply and simply spinning up a cloud architecture for your application. It has everything you need: an API, Terraform provider, etc, that modern software companies need and rely on. If you're unsure how hosting VPS works, their support is speedy and helpful. This is a key differentiator. Pricing is very fair and competitive but middle-of-the-road. For a startup, it will suit you very well for a long time. It's a smaller provider with less reach than, for example, DigitalOcean. More tools are built with the assumption of DigitalOcean, AWS, GCP, and Azure, so relying on other tools might require a rethink. It might be less of a fit if you need big-company things like a swarm of consultants with certifications.

Our main use of Linode is proof of concept testing. Because Linode bills only for the exact amount of use time of a virtual machine, plus makes it very user friendly and fast to configure, and has a lot of interesting "Marketplace" applications, it can be very easy and cheap to setup an entire test environment, try it out for a few days and delete it, only being billed for used hours.

An even larger range of Marketplace applications would be good.

<div>For setting up test/proof of concept environments, Linode is outstanding. I haven't found an alternative where configuration is nearly as simple, and the fact you get billed based on exact usage means you can test a system that costs $1000 a month, and only pay for a single day's use of it.</div><div>

</div><div>If large/unlimited bandwidth is needed, other providers are better. But I find Linode generally also offers better performance within its bandwidth limits.</div><div>

Linode makes some good arguments. The service and speed have consistently been good. Their willingness to hear me out and go the extra mile is much appreciated. Their business is top-notch since it is quick, cheap, user-friendly, and scalable. Our partners can trust Linode, thus I suggest them.

A wide variety of plans are available for selection.
Impressively, the customer service crew responds in a flash.
Immediate alerts delivered in the event of server spikes.

Cons

Data migration is often difficult.
New users will likely struggle to effectively utilize all capabilities.
Some settings are unclear without experience.

Likelihood to Recommend

Because it can build up bespoke tech stacks, Linode is a cheaper option to rivals like cloud services. There are hardly no downtimes for this tool server because of its incredibly solid stability. Also Linode is a fantastic web host as their shared hosting plans are faster than competing companies. Plus, with Linode, you can find a package that suits your budget and needs with no effort at all.

Being an IT security consultant nowadays has lots of preparation steps you need to take to convince your clients to invest in it. Linode made my work so easy by launching specific workloads within minutes and demoing an overall environment no matter how complex it is, with a fraction of an on-prem infrastructure costs. Moreover, customers by seeing the simplicity of Linode, often are asking about migrating services/workloads to the cloud, which adds value to my work. VM creation, specific workloads (websites, WordPress, nginx, etc.) enterprise workloads (like databases, etc.) within minutes, enterprise backups within seconds, and security as a service within clicks!! Thank you so much Linode/Akamai!!

VNET integration similar to other cloud providers not supported (or at least easily)
Scripting environment to create/manage resources

5 stars for instant deployment, a much easier marketplace than other cloud providers, and ....... WAY LOWER PRICE per Linode VM!! Not so good integration with other cloud providers, or scripting environments like Terraform, etc. (uses its scripting environment). Even though the pricing is BY FAR THE LOWEST on all cloud providers, there is no easy way to "manage" VMs and share access to others easily and control what they can create (role-based access control to "account" in general). For startups, fast/instant PoC (Proof of Concepts) scenarios, are highly recommended!

As a CRM consulting business, I need to be able to quickly spin up demo systems from archives; download whole instances of servers; work remotely and have reliable and responsive support for any issues at the Linode end.

Linode has provided us with a great range of cloud solutions to meet our changing needs.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Linode in multiple ways, from specialized development platforms to SSH and VPN hosts to NextCloud servers.

It is very easy to create a new VM with Linode, install a particular Linux Distribution, and then customize the environment to suit the specific needs of that application or developer.

Some of the machines that we have created as development machines have gone on to become test and production machines, or other machines have been created as almost duplicates of those development machines.

Easy to allocate IP addresses, both IPv4 and IPv6.

Cons

Some of the documentation requires some hand-holding to get started. It does explain how to do things, but sometimes finding the answer takes work.
Some of the settings are not obvious, or in locations that are not completely clear without experience.

Likelihood to Recommend

Linode provides a wide range of configurations and prices, suitable for many budgets and needs. They also have a lot of experience in providing these services for many years.

We have almost exclusively used Debian distributions for our work, but they offer a large number of other versions of Linux.

Beside "raw" distributions of Linux, they also offer other VMs containing specialized installations of a variety of applications, such as Wordpress, Drupal and Docker.
